Why did we type www on the Internet ?

The address of an Internet site is similar to a postal address to which the letter is mailed. When the Internet started, we had to type in ‘www’ to indicate where the particular site that we were looking for was stored. It refers to the World Wide Web. Nowadays, the www prefix is mostly not necessary for searching anything on internet.
