Why do glow-worms give out light ? 

There are many insects that emit light. There are  many types of glow worms. This is termed as bioluminescence. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism. If you've ever seen a firefly, you have encountered a bioluminescent organism.

Each one emits a more or less long luminous signal and at different intervals to enable recognition. Some of the glow-worm larvae glow as warp signal for predators as it contain mild toxin. Others glow in order to attract prey.
